This practical, case-based educational program will help those caring for cancer patients to better understand the rising rates and ravaging comorbidities of anxiety and depression.

Learning Objectives.

• Diagnose and treat anxiety and depression in the oncology setting
• Review when and how to treat anxiety and depression using evidence-based principles in prescribing for cancer patients
• Examine how to best manage pharmacotherapy and when to refer to psychiatric specialists using case-based discussions
• Appropriately assess patients for suicide risk

Target Audience

This activity is intended for oncology nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, nurse navigators, medical assistants, and other healthcare providers involved in the care of cancer patients.

Kathy Madden, RN, MSN, FNP-BC, AOCNP, APHN-BC

 

Kathy Madden is a Family Nurse Practitioner in the melanoma & cutaneous medical oncology group of the Laura and Isaac Perlmutter Clinical Cancer Center at NYU Langone Medical Center in New York City. Kathy’s experience during the past 2 decades at NYU has included working primarily in adult medicine and oncology with a focus on skin cancers with melanoma, she also serves as a sub-investigator for all melanoma & cutaneous research protocols and select phase 1 protocols at the Clinical Cancer Center. Kathy lectures nationally in her area of expertise and has multiple publications in her specialty. She has also serves as clinical adjunct faculty for students working toward their bachelor and master of science in nursing. Kathy is also passionate about integrative healing arts and holds board certifications in Advanced Practice in Oncology and Holistic Nursing accompanied by additional certifications in Clinical Homeopathy, Clinical Aromatherapy, IGM® Practitioner and Instructor, Clinical Meditation and Imagery. She is a member of the Oncology Nursing Society, ASCO, APSHO, ANA, American Holistic Nurses Association as well as other professional organizations. Kathy continues to pursue learning experiences that synthesize eastern and western modalities, ultimately enhancing and benefiting both personal and professional endeavors.

Jeremy Heinerich, PA-C

Jeremy Heinerich is the Clinical Director of Oncology PAs for Mount Sinai Hospital. He also works per-diem at NYP Weill Cornell on the inpatient oncology service.  He is very active in the PA profession from the American Academy of PAs, belonging to the NY State Society of PAs as well as in the oncology profession with the Association of PAs in Oncology serving as conference chair, industry liaison, currently and previously as President twice, Membership Chair, Secretary, and House of Delegates.

Pritham, Raj MD                                                                                                               

Dr. Pritham Raj is a clinician-educator who is board certified in Internal Medicine, Psychiatry, and Psychosomatic Medicine. During his career, he has helped create novel mind-body care systems including Duke's Med-Psych Inpatient Unit (as Chief Resident), OHSU's award-winning Med-Psych outpatient teaching clinic, and Adventist Health Portland's Emotional Wellness Center which was a finalist for the AABH Program of the Year in 2019.  In 2020 he became Chief Medical Officer at Active Path Mental Health, the 11th fastest growing small company in Oregon, engaged in the delivery of transcranial magnetic stimulation among other treatments for treatment resistant psychiatric conditions.  He continues to teach as an Associate Professor at Oregon Health & Science University.
