October 17, 2023

- This evenings in onboarding program will be a virtual (online) event. -

Overview:

For more than 100 years, radiation therapy has been used to treat cancers. Approximately 60% of all cancer patients will receive radiation therapy during their course of treatment in both curative and palliative settings.  Radiation therapy is delivered by a team of physicians, radiation therapists, nurses, physicists, and health care associates.  This seminar will introduce participants to radiation therapy, how it is used in the treatment of cancers, possible acute and late side effects, and management of these side effects.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Discuss radiation therapy mechanism of action and current indications in cancer treatment
  2. Differentiate among the various treatment modalities available in radiation oncology
  3. Describe the radiation therapy workflow from consultation to survivorship
  4. Identify the most common acute and late radiation therapy side effects and strategies for their management

This activity is intended for oncology nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, and other healthcare providers involved in the care of cancer patients.
