Overview

This session will provide a brief overview of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) with a focus on biomarker testing. Expert faculty will discuss updates in treatment regimens for AML and advances in targeted therapy, as well as the current role of measurable residual disease in AML.

  1. Discuss recent updates and future directions in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) treatment
  2. Review the importance of molecular testing and advances in AML targeted therapy
  3. Identify the role of measurable residual disease in optimizing the management of patients diagnosed with AML

MiKaela M. Olsen, DNP, APRN-CNS, AOCNS, FAAN - Johns Hopkins Hospital (Moderator)

MiKaela M. Olsen, DNP, APRN-CNS, AOCNS®, FAAN, is the Clinical Program Director for Oncology at the Johns Hopkins Hospital and the Johns Hopkins Health System.  Dr. Olsen serves as adjunct faculty for the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing and has a joint faculty appointment with the Johns Hopkins University.  She is also a faculty Associate at the University Of Maryland School Of Nursing. 

Dr. Olsen received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth Texas in 1989 and a Master of Science degree with special emphasis in Oncology nursing from the University of California at San Francisco in 1996.  She graduated with her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from University of Maryland in 2019.  She is a certified Advanced Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist.  

Dr. Olsen is currently the lead editor for the 1st and now 2nd edition of the Chemotherapy and Immunotherapy Guidelines and Recommendations for Practice (2019 & 2023) and an editor for the Safe Handling of Hazardous Drugs 3rd edition. As an instructor and consultant, Dr. Olsen has traveled to countries including Singapore, UAE, China, Bulgaria, and Japan to increase awareness of HD exposure risks and safe handling.

Jennie Goble, PA-C - Physician Assistant Mayo Clinic Rochester, MN (Speaker)

Jennie Goble is a Physician Assistant in the Division of Hematology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. She is an Assistant Professor in the College of Medicine and has a Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies. She is currently pursuing her doctorate in medical sciences with PA education concentration. Jennie has been a Physician Assistant in Hematology for 13 years and has practiced in both the inpatient and hospital outpatient settings. She is a fellow member of the Academy of Educational Excellence. She is Co-Director of Development for the Mayo Clinic PA program. She is President-Elect of the Association of Physician Assistants in Oncology. She speaks regionally and nationally on hematology topics. Clinical interests include acute leukemia, high grade lymphoma, cancer supportive care, and elderly oncology. Her passions are high quality patient care, NPPA education, and quality improvement.
