An Introduction to Interventional and Interdisciplinary Care for Cancer Related Pain

Interdisciplinary care and coordination across the spectrum of healthcare professionals improves cancer care. This webcast will review the interdisciplinary approach to cancer-related pain and describe various interventional pain management strategies including neurolytic and steroid-based injections and advanced procedures.

Target Audience

This CME initiative was designed for oncologists, surgeons, radiation oncologists, NPs, PAs, pharmacists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals involved in the treatment of patients with cancer.

1. Outline the anatomical targets for the interventional treatment of pain
2. Review the distinct roles of neurolytic versus steroid-based injections
3. Describe advanced procedures for refractory pain such as intrathecal pumps, spinal cord stimulators, and neurosurgical options

Faculty

Shorin Nemeth, DO, FACOI

Dr Nemeth is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Hospice and Palliative Medicine, and Pain Medicine. His particular field of interest is cancer pain, but he treats all types of painful conditions. He has a holistic approach toward Pain Medicine which focuses on the biopsychosocial model. He has lectured throughout the country and been extensively involved in Medical Student, Resident, Fellow, and Physician education. He has served as a Subject Matter Expert on Pain Medicine for the American Osteopathic Association as well as the FDA sponsored CO*RE REMS opioid education program.

Dr Nemeth is now located in Portland, OR after spending nearly a decade in the Midwest and Northeast. He is currently the Medical Director for Comprehensive Pain Services with Providence Health and Services. 

Dr Nemeth is married to a neuroscientist and cancer researcher, Dr Pucilowska. They have one child, Charlie, and a malamute named Mishka. In his “leisure time”, he and his wife enjoy cycling, rock climbing, ice climbing, hiking, and yoga.
