Overview

This webcast will dive into the multifaceted landscape of genetic testing, providing participants with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate the complexities of informed consent, testing implications, and decision-making processes. Participants will be equipped with the insights needed to navigate the complex landscape of genetic testing and informed consent, ultimately contributing to informed and ethical decision-making in clinical practice.

Target Audience

This CME initiative was designed for oncologists, surgeons, radiation oncologists, NPs, PAs, pharmacists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals involved in the treatment of patients with cancer.

1. Identify the components of informed consent for germline and somatic genetic testing
2. Discuss implications of testing for family members and recommendations for cascade testing
3. Recognize the role of single site, single gene, and multigene panel testing and management of patients with variants of uncertain significance
4. Describe how somatic testing informs decisions with regards to germline testing

Cathy Marinak, APRN, AOCNP

Cathy Marinak, APRN, AOCNP is a Hereditary Cancer Counselor with Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute. Cathy holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Vanderbilt University and earned her Master's Degree from Florida Atlantic University. Additionally, Cathy has received advanced training in genetics counseling, and is Board Certified in Oncology. In her current role, Cathy uses her over 40 years of experience, to guide patients through the genetic screening and testing process, and provides support and referrals based on testing results.
