Faculty

Michelle Gulbrandson, MSN, APRN, FNP-C, AGACNP-BC (Moderator)

Michelle Gulbrandson has been a Nurse Practitioner since 2011. She initially started her career in solid organ transplant at a large academic medical center mostly working with liver transplant patients. Over the years, Michelle was able to expand her role to include more transplants, but also oncologic surgeries that involved liver and pancreas. During this time, she completed a Post Master’s certificate in Executive Practice and Health Leadership. In 2017, Michelle and her husband decided to move back to Nebraska to be closer to family. Michelle took a job with Nebraska Medicine working with Surgical Oncology. This role seemed to be made specifically for her. It weaved together her love for inpatient care, challenging diagnoses, and wonderful patients.

In 2019, Michelle returned to school and obtained a Post Master’s certificate in Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner and completed certification in 2020. While Michelle loved her job, she was still searching for more. So, in 2021, Michelle transitioned to a leadership position which included managing the APPs in oncology. This has allowed Michelle to continue her clinical practice part time but also be a part of the larger oncology practice at Nebraska Medicine. Since taking this role, Michelle has grown the team from 29 APPs to almost 50,
including 4 locations. Her favorite part is working with various groups to elevate the role of the APP, standardize utilization and help other APPs with growth and development.

When not working, Michelle is active in the Nebraska Nurse Practitioner Group and was recently voted in as the Treasurer. She is a Director at Large for Metro Omaha Chapter of Oncology Nursing Society and is working on an NCCN Workgroup for APP Best Practices. Michelle has been married to her high school sweetheart for almost 17 years and together they have 2 children ages 9 and 11. She loves anything sports and outdoors and consider hiking in Colorado to be her ‘happy place’.
