Emerging Technologies for the Management of Colon Cancer

Overview
Colon cancer is the 3rd most common cancer in the US and ranks 2nd as the cause of cancer-related deaths overall. Participants will improve their understanding of how tumor profiles and biomarker analysis can assist in selecting targeted therapies for patients with colon cancer. Experts will also discuss the evidence available for circulating tumor DNA assays and they can detect minimal residual disease in colorectal cancer patients.
Target Audience
This CME initiative was designed for oncologists, surgeons, radiation oncologists, NPs, PAs, pharmacists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals involved in the treatment of patients with cancer.
Learning Objectives
1. Describe how to use tumor profile, biomarker analysis, and patient-specific characteristics to select targeted therapies for individuals with colon cancer
2. Review the evidence for use of circulating tumor (ct) DNA assays in detecting minimal residual disease in patients with colorectal cancer
Faculty
Nancy Wipf, DNP, MSN, MEd, FNP-BC, AOCNP
Dr. Nancy Wipf graduated from University of Texas Pan-American with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1998, and later obtained a Master of Science in Nursing in 2003. In 2018, she obtained a post Master’s in Nursing Education as she is a life-long learner who utilizes evidence-based practices and a variety of learning styles to meet the oncology educational and practice needs of current and future advanced care providers. Last year, she completed her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from the University of Texas at Arlington. She joined MD Anderson Cancer Center in 2010 working in the Radiation Oncology Department. She then worked as an APRN in Breast Surgery for 10 years; and in 2021, she was promoted to Supervisor for the Colon & Rectal Surgery Department where she leads an exceptional team of 14 Advanced Practice Providers across all MD Anderson campuses facilitating Inpatient, OR, and Outpatient clinical operations. She has a unique dedication to expediting patient access, quality, safety, enhancing system workflow processes, supporting the professional development of nurses, and education which reflect many of MD Anderson's core values.
Dr. Wipf has also received numerous awards and recognitions. In 2022, she was a finalist for the Brown Nursing Award for Leadership Excellence. She also received the Alice Judkins Professional Development Grant Award in 2022 and 2023. She has co-authored numerous papers and delivered many presentations on breast and colorectal cancers at local, state, national, and international seminars and conferences.
