APPOS is a CE conference devoted to providing the latest developments in the multidisciplinary treatment, practical patient management, and interprofessional care of oncology patients.

In alignment with current national COVID-19 guidelines and mandates, APPOS does not require attendees to wear masks or show proof of vaccination. Masks are still encouraged for those who are at higher risk from COVID-19, including those who are unvaccinated, or immunocompromised.

Course Overview
The APP Oncology Summit is a two-day conference designed to provide advanced practice providers (APPs) with the latest evidence-based strategies to optimize care and outcomes for patients with cancer. This conference is planned with and for advanced practice providers (NPs, PAs, pharmacists, and nurse specialists) and is a collaborative effort of oncology clinicians from multiple organizations in each community. 

The APP Oncology Summit offers a unique opportunity for APPs from various healthcare teams in the community to collaborate, learn from each other and national faculty, and share best practices on a range of issues related to the care of cancer patients.

Intended Learners
APP Oncology Summits are developed with and for advanced practice providers including NPs, PAs, pharmacists, and nurses.

As part of the multidisciplinary team in the care of cancer patients, students, physicians, and other healthcare professionals involved in the management of cancer patients are also welcome to attend.

Ashton Boyle is a Lead APP with Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville where she has worked with the dynamic GI Oncology group for 6 years. Her medical specialty is hepatobiliary cancers. As an Instructor of Medicine, she also serves as the Assistant Director of the APP Heme Onc Fellowship.

 

Mandy Kimmel, APRN, AGNP-C, OCN

Nurse Practitioner

Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute Tampa, FL

 

Mandy Kimmel is a nurse practitioner for Florida Cancer Specialists and Research Institute working alongside Dr. Julia Cogburn in hematology/oncology in the outpatient setting.  She has been working at FCS for 12 years. During that time, she was an oncology certified infusion nurse, Nurse Manager, and Assistant Director of Nursing until completing her MSN degree from the University of South Florida in December 2020. She was a member of the Clinical Directions Team developing and implementing standard operating procedures for 6 years. She was also a member of the planning committee for the FCS Nursing and Pharmacy Conferences in 2017 and 2020. 

 

Janelle Perkins, PharmD, BCOP

Associate Professor

University of South Florida College of Pharmacy Tampa, FL

 

Dr. Perkins received her BS Pharm from University of Florida and her PharmD from University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. She completed an oncology specialty residency at the Audie Murphy VA Hospital in San Antonio TX and then moved back to Florida to take a clinical pharmacist position at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa. She remained at Moffitt for the next 25 years, taking on various roles including research associate, full-time faculty within the Blood and Marrow Transplant program and BMT clinical research manager. She has participated as a co-investigator in numerous clinical trials within the BMT program, serving as principal investigator on two prospective interventional trials both of which were funded.

Dr. Perkins has recently transitioned into a full time faculty member as an associate professor at the new University of South Florida College of Pharmacy where she coordinates and teaches in courses on Research Methods and Oncology Pharmacotherapeutics. She is also the director of the clinical research pharmacy located in the USF ambulatory care center and serves as one of two chairpersons for the USF Institutional Review Board. She is board certified in Oncology Pharmacotherapy.

 

Melissa Adams, PA-C

Physician Assistant

Moffitt Cancer Center Tampa, FL

 

Melissa Adams, MS, PA-C currently works at Moffitt Cancer Center and has worked there for 10 years. She is a surgical PA in the Gastrointestinal Tumor Program and specializes in pancreas cancer, gastric cancer, and bowel malignancies. She is a mentor for the clinical ladder, which was created to recognize those APPs who go above and beyond their expected job duties to promote Moffitt’s vision. She is also a part of the clinical pathways committee which has established a care pathway for pancreatic cancer. She is a member of the Florida Academy of Physician Assistants as well as the Advanced Practitioner Society for Hematology and Oncology. She has always had an interest in oncology and plans to continue her career in this setting for many years.
