Overview

The Cancer Care & Prevention Symposium is a multidisciplinary conference that brings together clinicians from various subspecialties involved in managing patients with cancer to discuss the latest advances and strategies for optimizing cancer care and prevention. Leading experts from diverse backgrounds will discuss novel strategies for cancer screening, cancer risk and heredity, innovations in robotic cancer surgery, radiation therapy, integrative medicine, stress management, fertility preservation, cardiotoxicity, and the impact of artificial intelligence on patients with cancer. The symposium will serve as a platform for exchanging knowledge, innovations, and strategies to improve care and outcomes for patients affected by cancer.

We designed this conference for a multidisciplinary audience, including primary care providers, gynecologists, surgeons, pulmonologists, gastroenterologists, medical and radiation oncologists, and other healthcare professionals managing cancer patients.. 

Learning Objectives.

  1. Review head and neck cancer epidemiology as it pertains to incidence, prevalence, and risk factors
  2. Identify the latest advances and future directions in the areas of medical, surgical, and radiation therapy for head and neck cancers involving the oropharynx
  3. Outline how dental care, nutrition and symptom management can optimize functional outcomes for head and neck cancer survivors
  4. Describe the importance of a multidisciplinary approach in treating patients diagnosed with head and neck cancers

Target Audience

This activity is intended for oncology nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, nurse navigators, medical assistants, and other healthcare providers involved in the care of cancer patients.

Tina Siebeneck, MSN, FNP-C, AOCNP (Moderator - Planner)

Bettina (Tina) is a Nurse Practitioner for Ironwood Radiation Oncology Department in Glendale, Az., since 2018. During her time in Arizona, she has become a conference planner and a speaker for Horizon. She attended St. Vincent School of Nursing, Toledo, Ohio to become an RN.  She has a Bachelor Science of Nursing from Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, Ohio.  At the University of Toledo, she completed her Family Nurse Practitioner education.  She worked at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo, Ohio for 30 years; 22 of these years were in Radiation Oncology. 

During those years, she received a national award from the Oncology Nursing Society for providing excellence in nursing care for patients undergoing Radiation Oncology treatments. She also received many local and regional awards for nursing excellence and commitment to
oncology. She has 2 years experience being a national conference planner for oncology nursing Society. She was the sole author of “Extravasation of Yttrium90 Ibritumomab Tiuxetan: A Case Study,” which was published in 2008 in Clinical Journal of Oncology Nursing. She also co-published her research: “Relationship between Fatigue and Nutritional Status in Patients Receiving Radiation Therapy to Treat Lung Cancer”, published in 2001 in Oncology Nursing Forum.  

She also worked as a Radiation Oncology Nurse Practitioner for a large Radiation Oncology group and practiced in multiple sites throughout Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan. Prior to being an NP, she worked for 22 years as an RN in radiation oncology in downtown Toledo Ohio. She also has worked contingent in medical oncology and palliative care. She worked as a general MedSurg RN prior to this. Tina has moved to Glendale, Arizona to be closer to her family. She enjoys camping, biking, hiking, boating, family outings, and exploring new landscapes. She also enjoys traveling.

 

Jennifer Myers, RN, DNP, ANP (Speaker)

Ms. Myers is an alum of Maryville University in Saint Louis, MO having graduated in 1997 with her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. In 2001, she completed her Master of Science degree in Nursing and was certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center as an Adult Nurse Practitioner in 2002. In addition to a robust clinical practice where Ms. Myers functions as an Adult Nurse Practitioner seeing genitourinary, prostate, and head & neck cancer patients; Ms. Myers is also the manager of the Advanced Practice Provider group in the Department of Radiation Oncology at Washington University School of Medicine. 

Ms. Myers have co-authored articles on the judicious use of chronic opioid medication which has been published in Missouri Medicine and in the Journal of Opioid Management. Ms. Myers also functions as manuscript reviewer for the American Society for Pain Management Nursing and for the Oncology Nursing Society. She has functioned as an abstract mentor for novice writers /presenters for Oncology Nursing Society. In 2013, Ms. Myers received the Sigma Theta Tau - Zeta Epsilon Research Grant which assisted in her DNP project entitled “The Effect of a Gentle Yoga Program on Pain Perception and Self-Efficacy among Older Adults with Osteoarthritis”.

Ms. Myers completed her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) at Valparaiso University in May, 2014 and she presented the research findings at the 2014 American Association of Nurse Practitioner’s (AANP) National Conference in Nashville, Tennessee. Ms. Myers continues to be a speaker on both a local and national level. She has spoken at several AANP conferences including the 2015, 2016, & the 2017 National AANP Conferences. Ms. Myers has also spoken on a variety of cancer related topics for the American Association of Men in Nursing and for local organizations.
