Bone Marrow Aspiration and Biopsy: A Hands-on Skills Workshop (APPOS Cleveland 2023)
The Bone Marrow Aspiration and Biopsy: A Hands-on Skills Workshop will be taught by two APP faculty experts with experience in performing bone marrow biopsy procedures using a manual and powered approach. The faculty will begin the workshop by presenting a short slide presentation that provides an overview of the bone marrow biopsy procedure (12-15 minutes). Following this, the expert faculty will demonstrate the manual and powered techniques while learners observe. The remaining time will be allocated for learner hands-on skills practice.

Kristen Bakalarz has worked at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center for 25 years. She has worked as a nurse practitioner for 11 of those 25 years. She received her undergraduate degree from Kent State University and her master’s degree from Case Western Reserve University. Kristen's tenure at UH has all been focused on oncology. As a nurse practitioner, she has enjoyed taking care of our lymphoma population and is particularly proud of the work that has been done with CAR T Cell therapy.

Christopher D'Andrea, PA-C is a physician assistant in hematology oncology at The Cleveland Clinic Taussig Cancer Center. Mr. D'Andrea has been at Cleveland Clinic with the lymphoma team since completing a master's degree in physician assistant studies at DeSales University in 2014. Primarily managing outpatients within the lymphoma department, duties also include: managing new lymphadenopathy consults, performing bone marrow biopsies, patient care in the cancer associated thrombosis clinic/rapid access clinic, and apheresis clinic. He also has previous inpatient care experience with lymphoma, myeloma, leukemia, and BMT. He lives with his wife, 2 1⁄2 year old daughter, 1 year old son, & cat in a west side suburb of Cleveland.
