Multi-Organ Management of Patients with Multiple Myeloma
SELF STUDY / ENDURING - ESTIMATED TIME TO COMPLETE ACTIVITY: 90 Minutes
The overabundance of the M protein produced in patients with multiple myeloma (MM) has deleterious effects on multiple organs in the body including skeletal, renal system, bone marrow, and others. This webcast will review strategies for managing the effects of MM on the renal system, red blood cell counts, bone health, and infection risk.
Target Audience
This CME initiative was designed for oncologists, surgeons, radiation oncologists, NPs, PAs, pharmacists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals involved in the treatment of patients with cancer.
Learning Objectives
1. Review disease risk factors for the renal system that are unique to plasma cell diseases, and how treatment is modified in the setting of kidney injury
2. Describe approaches to maintaining blood counts in the setting of multiple myeloma
3. Discuss approaches taken to preserve bone health in the setting of multiple myeloma
4. Define prophylactic approaches to reducing the risk of infection related mortality in newly diagnosed multiple myeloma
