Learning Objectives:

1. Describe the mechanism of action of CAR T-cell therapies and recent advances to decrease treatment-related toxicity
2. Review current efficacy data for FDA-approved CAR T-cell therapies across hematologic malignancies
3. Discuss strategies for identifying and managing both established and novel toxicities associated with CAR T-cell therapy

Target Audience

This activity is intended for NPs, PAs, pharmacists, and nurses. Students, physicians, and other healthcare professionals involved in oncology patient management are also welcome to attend.

Rachel Schulz currently works at UCLA's outpatient hematologic malignancies and outpatient cellular therapies Bowyer Oncology Clinic. After spending nine years working in the medical intensive care unit as an RN, I was drawn to work with outpatient hematologic malignancies and cellular therapies due to the meaningful long-term relationship created with patients and families over the span of their treatment and the field's rapid advancements in new therapies.\

Karolina Faysman, RN, MSN, AOCNP, DNP (candidate), is the Lead Hematology/Oncology/Transplant Nurse Practitioner III at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) Medical Center and is an Assistant Professor/Instructor at UCLA’s Graduate School of Nursing. She is a sub-investigator in multiple clinical trials researching CML, AML, ALL, MM, CLL, and more. Faysman is an ongoing local and national presenter for the Oncology Nursing Society and Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse conferences.

She is a member of the Advanced Practitioner Society for Hematology and Oncology. Faysman earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from California State University and then completed a Master’s in Nursing from UCLA. She is currently a DNP candidate at the Azusa Pacific University with an expected graduation in 2023.
