Navigating the Complexities of Cellular Therapy: Identifying Risks and Interventions to Minimize Toxicity
SELF STUDY / ENDURING - ESTIMATED TIME TO COMPLETE ACTIVITY: 45 Minutes
Overview
This program offers an in-depth exploration of the complexities of cellular therapy, focusing on risk identification and toxicity management. Participants will delve into key risk factors for febrile neutropenia and sepsis, as well as the clinical presentation of oncologic emergencies such as CRS, ICANS, and HLH/MAS. Through case-based scenarios, attendees will gain practical insights into the effective management of these conditions, guided by ASTCT recommendations, to enhance patient care in the context of advanced cellular therapies.
Target Audience
This CME initiative was designed for oncologists, surgeons, radiation oncologists, NPs, PAs, pharmacists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals involved in the treatment of patients with cancer.
Learning Objectives
- Identify risk factors for febrile neutropenia and sepsis in patients undergoing cellular therapy to enhance early recognition and effective symptom management.
- Recognize the clinical presentation of oncologic emergencies associated with cellular therapies including, cytokine release syndrome (CRS), immune effector cell-associated neurotoxicity syndrome (ICANS) and immune effector cell-associated hemophagocytic lymphocytosis (HLH) / Macrophage Activation Syndrome (MAS) to facilitate prompt intervention and minimize patient morbidity.
- Discuss the American Society for Transplantation and Cellular Therapy (ASTCT) recommendations that advanced practice providers (APPs) can use to guide the effective management of oncologic emergencies associated with cellular therapy
