Role of Nutrition Support for Patients Receiving Radiation Therapy

Overview
This educational activity aims to deepen participants' understanding of nutrition support strategies for patients undergoing radiation therapy. Learners will explore the nuances of managing nutrition impact symptoms across various cancers, including head/neck, gastrointestinal (GI), and pelvic. Evidence-based guidelines for optimizing nutrition intake and improving patient outcomes during cancer therapy.
Target Audience
This CME initiative was designed for oncologists, surgeons, radiation oncologists, NPs, PAs, pharmacists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals involved in the treatment of patients with cancer.

1. Discuss guidelines for nutrition support in management of patients receiving cancer treatment
2. Identify common nutrition impact symptoms in patients receiving radiation of the head/neck, GI, and pelvic region
3. Describe nutritional interventions for management of common nutrition impact symptoms to improve patient outcomes
Faculty
Krystle Zuniga, PhD, RD, LD, CSO
Krystle is an experienced clinician, educator, scientist, and science communicator. Her research in the area of nutrition, physical activity, and cancer has been published in peer-reviewed journals including Cancer Prevention Research, Journal of Nutrition, Nutrition and Cancer, and Breast Cancer Research and Treatment. In addition to her current position as Assistant Professor of Instruction in the Department of Nutritional Sciences at UT Austin, she is a board certified oncology dietitian and owner of the private practice and social media account Cancer Nutrition HQ, where she strives to combat misinformation, share the latest research in nutrition and cancer, and translate the science into everyday actions cancer survivors can take to support their health and quality of life with nutrition. Krystle is also a founding board member of the Moving Beyond Cancer Collaborative, a non-profit that provides accessible and affordable integrative oncology health and wellness services.
