Overview:
This educational program provides a review of key diagnostic tests and procedures that advanced practice providers encounter in patient care, including description, indications, and interpretation of results, along with clinical practice applications.
Learning Objectives:
- Describe the procedural overview, clinical indications, and interpretation of bone marrow biopsy results
- Discuss the procedural overview, clinical indications, and interpretation of cerebrospinal fluid analysis from lumbar punctures
- Recognize the differences between various radiological imaging modalities, including identifying appropriate clinical scenarios for each and the basic principles of interpreting these images
- Identify when to order molecular tests, implications of these test results, and integrate them into patients’ overall diagnostic and treatment plans in selected cancers
Target Audience:
This activity is intended for oncology nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, and other healthcare providers involved in the care of cancer patients.

Faculty
Laura Zitella, MS, RN, ACNP-BC, AOCN
Laura J. Zitella is a hematology nurse practitioner at UCSF Health in the Hematology, Blood & Marrow Transplant, and Cellular Therapy (HBC) Program and has a volunteer faculty appointment as Associate Clinical Professor in the Department of Physiological Nursing at the University of California San Francisco. She earned her Master of Science from the University of Illinois in Chicago.
Laura holds certifications as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner and an Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse. With more than 25 years of experience in oncology practice, Ms. Zitella is recognized as a national nurse practitioner leader. Her clinical expertise includes patients with hematologic malignancies receiving chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, investigational agents, hematopoietic cell transplantation, and supportive care. She is a prominent educator who has delivered hundreds of educational presentations to national and international audiences and authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, web courses, videos, and book chapters.
