Neuroendocrine Neoplasms: Not All Hoofbeats Are Horses

Overview

Neuroendocrine neoplasms (NEN) represent 2% of malignancies in the United States and data suggests an increase in incidence. This session will review the current diagnosis, grading, and classification of NEN with a focus on NEN of the gastrointestinal tract. Participants will dive into the therapeutic recommendations for localized and advanced NEN, as well as novel and emerging treatment strategies for these tumors. 

Target Audience

This CME initiative was designed for oncologists, surgeons, radiation oncologists, NPs, PAs, pharmacists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals involved in the treatment of patients with cancer.

Learning Objectives

1. Discuss the grading and classification of NEN that influence patient prognosis and treatment planning

2. Describe the diagnostic methods used in the evaluation of neuroendocrine neoplasms (NEN), including the role of imaging techniques and the significance of specific biomarkers

3. Identify the current guideline-recommended treatment modalities for localized and advanced neuroendocrine neoplasms

Jessica Guadagno, PA 

Jessica serves as the outpatient medical oncology APP lead at Winship Clifton campus. She has spent the last 5 years as a member of the GI oncology team, and recently started Winship’s Oncology Diagnostic Clinic. Jessica earned her PA degree from Emory University. In addition to her clinical practice, she is a part of the Emory APP Oncology Fellowship program as a didactic coordinator and preceptor.
