Overview

There are many etiologies to consider when evaluating patients who present with pelvic masses or abnormal genital tract bleeding. During this webcast, expert faculty will discuss the complexities related to the diagnosis and management approaches for these patients, with a focus on adnexal masses and postmenopausal bleeding.

Target Audience

This CME initiative was designed for oncologists, surgeons, radiation oncologists, NPs, PAs, pharmacists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals involved in the treatment of patients with cancer.

Learning Objectives

1. Recognize the differential diagnoses, work-up, and management of a patient presenting with a pelvic mass or abnormal bleeding.
2. Discuss the medical and surgical management of pelvic masses and abnormal bleeding.
3. Identify the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration and the diagnosis and treatment of pelvic masses and abnormal bleeding

Faculty

Michael McCollum, MD, FACOG

Dr. McCollum is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and is board eligible in Gynecologic Oncology. He has practiced medicine in hospital and university capacities for over 20 years. Prior to joining Virginia Oncology Associates, Dr. McCollum served as Gynecologic Oncology Section Chief for Franklin Square Hospital Center, Baltimore, Maryland. He was also Assistant Clinical Professor of Gynecologic Oncology at both the University of Maryland School of Medicine and The Johns Hopkins Hospital and University School of Medicine.

Dr. McCollum earned his Medical Doctor degree from Medical College of Virginia, Richmond, Virginia. He completed his medical internship and residency at Baltimore, Maryland’s Franklin Square Hospital Center. His Gynecologic Oncology fellowship was completed at The Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions. Dr. McCollum is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ACOG). He is also an active member of several other notable medical associations, including the Gynecologic Oncology Group, American Medical Association, Johns Hopkins Medical and Surgical Association, and Maryland Medical Society. He has received ACOG’s coveted Council on Resident Education in Obstetrics and Gynecology National Faculty Award three times. During his free time, Dr. McCollum enjoys spending time with his wife and four children.

Kristen Taylor, PA-C

Kristen Taylor is a licensed Physician Assistant. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Cognitive Science with a concentration in Neuroscience from The University of Virginia in 2013.  She received her master’s degree as a surgical assistant from Eastern Virginia Medical School in 2015. As a surgical assistant, she gained valuable surgical skills while in the operating room. She went on to receive her second master’s degree as a physician assistant from Eastern Virginia
Medical School in 2020 and joined Virginia Oncology Associates upon matriculation. Kristen works alongside Dr. Michael McCollum with a special focus on gynecologic oncology. She is specialized in DaVinci Robotic-Assisted surgery and functions in both the clinic and surgical settings. Outside of practicing medicine, Kristen enjoys spending quality time with her husband and family, her two French bulldogs, and traveling the world.
