Overview

This program provides a comprehensive review of breast cancer risk assessment and management. Participants will explore key risk factors, genetic testing guidelines, and management strategies for moderate- to high-risk genes. Case-based scenarios will offer practical insights into the clinical care of high-risk breast patients.

Target Audience

This CME initiative was designed for oncologists, surgeons, radiation oncologists, NPs, PAs, pharmacists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals involved in the treatment of patients with cancer.

Learning Objectives

1. Identify risk factors for breast cancer and strategies to accurately assess risk in high risk breast patients
2. Review guidelines for testing, risk and management strategies of moderate-high risk genes

Faculty

Sarah Gelb, MSN, APRN, FNP-C

Sarah A. Gelb is an Advanced Practiced Registered Nurse in the Oncology Department at The Queens Medical Center. She currently co-manages the High Risk and Hereditary Clinic in the Queens Cancer Center. She is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner with a Masters and Bachelors in Nursing from the University of Hawai’i at Manoa. She is a certified GCRA provider through the City of Hope Intensive Course in Genomic Cancer Risk Assessment and a member of the Clinical Cancer Genomics Community of Practice. She has a Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology from Tufts University and a Master’s in Education from Carthage College. She is a current member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP).

Prior to joining The Queens Cancer Center team, Sarah spent seven years as a primary care provider and Downtown Clinic Site Director of Kalihi Palama Health Center, a federally qualified health center (FQHC) offering comprehensive healthcare access to a diverse and underserved patient population of primarily Asian, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander ethnic backgrounds. Sarah also serves as the AINA In Schools Nutrition Coordinator for the Kokua Hawai’i Foundation providing nutrition and environmental education to students and educators throughout Hawai’i. Sarah has dedicated her career to promoting health and wellness through primary prevention. She is personally passionate about advocating for high risk breast cancer patients as the daughter of a two-time breast cancer survivor.
