Bone Marrow Aspiration and Biopsy: A Hands-on Skills Workshop (APPOS Los Angeles 2023)
The Bone Marrow Aspiration and Biopsy: A Hands-on Skills Workshop will be taught by two APP faculty experts with experience in performing bone marrow biopsy procedures using a manual and powered approach. The faculty will begin the workshop by presenting a short slide presentation that provides an overview of the bone marrow biopsy procedure (12-15 minutes). Following this, the expert faculty will demonstrate the manual and powered techniques while learners observe. The remaining time will be allocated for learner hands-on skills practice.

Kristin Horwood, RN, BSN, MSN, ACNP-BC, AOCNP, is Nurse Practitioner in the Hematology Department at USC Medical Center/Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center. She specializes and provides high quality care to patients with bone marrow failure syndromes including MDS and Aplastic Anemia, myeloproliferative neoplasms and Leukemia/Lymphomas. She also treats patients with high risk bleeding and blood clotting disorders. She is a graduate of McMaster University Hamilton, Ontario with a Bachelors in Nursing and from UCLA with a Master in Nursing. She is a preceptor to current prospective NP students. Future career goals include a more avid role in research/clinical trials and perhaps pursuing a DNP or PhD.
